This Saturday I'm going to Philly for my nephew's 6 year old birthday. In addition to a giant balsa wood airplane I was thinking about giving him a DVD. He basically has all the typical stuff now. I've also given him every variation of learning/sports/action figure toy he could need. I'm wondering though if a 6 year old in 2008 would appreciate ROCKY the movie?
I still do (only the first and second ones). In fact, I have to admit I still get the goosebumps when watching this training scene.

Rocky III came out in '82, when we were 8 yrs old- since we weren't really yet watching movies on tape, this was the first of the series I saw (at the movie theater nonetheless). The excitement was really fueled by chatter throughout a neighborhood of mostly older boys. I think there is a big difference between turning six and being eight years old in terms of sitting and watching something that doesn't involve large blocks of vivid colors moving across the screen w/funny sound effects. My suggestion- wait a few years for Rocky and instead go with some classic Disney animation or live-action.
Okay fine I'm buying it for myself!
I was hoping to introduce him to something cinematic other than spiderman. I thought that it would get him hyped-up in a productive way. Possibly even to understand the importance of hard work... the benefits to being the underdog... how to punch raw meat.
Howabout Ragging Bull then?
Raging Bull is dope, but perhaps not for the little brother huh? How about "Spirited Away" by
Hayao Miyazaki? "Princess Mononoke" is one of my all time faves.
On the Rocky tip, I had goosebumps when I first saw it which was probably a bit after you guys had watched it being that Brazil at that time was quite delay with things.
The cool thing about kids is that they accept lots of things outside their present context so he might get down. In terms of hardnose Philly pride I don't think I own any, I defend it when I see it defensable y'know?!
anyways brother, if you make your way into Providence, hit us up. We'd love to have you at our spot.
peace, rubens
i've never seen a rocky. i know. i know.
Yes, I meant Raging Bull, not Ragging Bull.
Although that would be a funny name for a movie.
Hey R - Congratulations then on RISD! (I'm assuming)
I didn't know that was the cause for the move.
Yeah RISD it is. I thought I had told you about, my bad brother. So we are to leave this saturday and like I said whenever you want to roll through you gotta a spot to crash in b.
i was watch the series (1-IV) when i was 8 years or so, but until now i do remember that series especially for the Rocky III.
