Last night I had some drinks with Emily. She's really great and her work is too. I met Emily about 4 years ago at The Vermont Studio Center. Some of my fondest moments in nature were due to her. This one time we went for a long hike in the constant 3 ft. of snow late in a February afternoon. Then we got kinda lost. Then we started thinking about survival... or at least I was. We only had the moonlight to guide us and that was just enough. We made it back to base camp late for dinner, cold and tired. I was thankful that we didnt' have to resort to cannibalism. So here are some works by Emily:
Wow I really liked these. Especially the first and last ones. The characters amidst all of those different touches. Really ill. It's interesting seeing them juxtaposed to the Ben Shahn's. The vertical black quirky lines and some of the colors and their opacity.
Hey Aaron, for the last month and a half I've been almost exclusively listening to Takagi Masakatsu. I'm sure you know him, but have you ever listen to the album "Eating"? It's what I'm listening to right now. Listening to it made me think about your work. The cover for it is true niceness. Birds stitched onto burlap.
Yeah, I looked him up. I see what you mean. There's something about playful, melodic sounds weaving in and out that relate to my work. The influence of sound for me usually balances between digital and analog - which is also what's nice about Takagi Masakatsu. Someone you might like in a similar vain but more dub than classical is Pole. They used to be on Matador but I'm not sure if they're still making albums. Info on Pole can still be found on the Matador website though.
I like Pole. I have his "45/45" from 2003. I had another that was a self titled joint but I traded for some other stuff. I need to give a more thorough listen to "Steingarten". I only have one song from it.
Plone I've never heard of so I'll give it a check.
Have you ever seen any of Takagi's videos. He started making music simply to score his videos/movies.

I enjoy the paintings too. Not to mention the quality photo collage.
